Shipping Preparation
Shipping Preparation
A crested gecko ships best when its enclosure is ready, someone is home to receive it, and you open the box promptly and carefully. Overnight shipping keeps travel to about a day, but preparation on your end makes the difference.
Before delivery day:
- Set up the enclosure and confirm the temperature holds at 72 to 78°F for at least a day
- Use paper towel substrate, a few hides, foliage and a shallow water dish
- Check the forecast for your area and your delivery address, and contact us if extreme heat or cold is expected
- Read our Live Arrival Guarantee terms before ordering, since they explain what we need if there is a problem
On delivery day:
- Plan to have an adult at home to sign for the package
- Bring the box indoors right away and keep it out of heat, cold and direct sun
- Open it in a quiet room, and record a video of the unboxing, which helps if there is any issue
- Remove the gecko gently from its container, because it may jump
- Place it in the prepared enclosure and leave it alone
After arrival:
- Mist lightly and make sure water is available
- Offer food the next evening, though some geckos skip a few meals after shipping
- Wait one to two weeks before handling
- Weigh the gecko when it arrives and weekly during the first month
Contact us promptly if the gecko arrives injured, unresponsive or in poor condition, and keep the packaging until the matter is resolved.
